Free rides come into effect February 1

Children will soon be able to board the Q to Q ferry for free.

The city has announced that children 12 and under will be able to board the Ferry from Q to Q free from February 1. Free service complies with provincial law Climb on board program.

The ferry service, operated by Bowen Land and Sea Taxi (BLaST), carries passengers between Queensborough and Quayside.

Under the Get on Board program, children 12 and under can ride TransLink and BC Transit services for free. As of September 1, 2021, children 12 and under can use TransLink services for free (details on

“It was important that the Q to Q be consistent with recent initiatives to provide free public transit to youth across the province,” said Mayor Jonathan Côté, who also chairs the Council of Mayors on Regional Transportation. “I hope the move will make Q to Q more accessible and encourage young people and their families to use this service.”

In late 2018, City Council received a delegation from the BC Poverty Reduction Coalition asking it to support the All On Board campaign, which supported free public transit for children and youth ages zero to 18 and a let -scaling up for other riders to ensure that the most vulnerable and vulnerable people in society marginalized citizens can access the transit system. The Board approved a motion in support of the coalition’s request.

In March 2020, the Q to Q ferry ceased operations in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, but resumed service in November 2020 with a limited schedule.

The current weekday timetable is for the ferry to leave Quayside every 30 minutes between 7am and 10.30am and between 3.15pm and 6.45pm.

It departs from Queensborough every 30 minutes from 7.15am to 10.45am and 3.30pm to 7pm

On weekends and bank holidays, the ferry leaves Quayside every 30 minutes from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. From Queensborough, it leaves every half hour from 11:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
