Governor Hochul Announces Progress of New York State’s Electric Vehicle Programs and Encourages New Yorkers to Visit the Indoor Electric Vehicle Test Track at the New York International Auto Show

Kevin O’Toole, Chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, said: “By providing 10 new fast chargers at LaGuardia Airport, we hope to provide more drivers with convenient charging options at the airport. The Port Authority continues to find ways for us as an agency to reduce carbon emissions, and that certainly includes increasing the number of publicly accessible charging stations.”

Rick Cotton, Executive Director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, said: “The Port Authority remains committed to achieving an agency-wide net zero vision plan and today we continue that commitment with the announcement of 10 new electric vehicle chargers coming to LaGuardia Airport. With the help of our partners at the New York Power Authority, New York State Department of Transportation, and New York State Office of General Services, LaGuardia Airport will be able to provide a new network of public fast chargers for electric vehicles, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and bringing us closer to a clean energy future.”

Doreen M. Harris, President and CEO of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority and Co-Chair of the Climate Action Council, said: “Electric vehicles are our future and I’m thrilled to see them featured prominently at the premier New York Auto Show. It’s a great opportunity for New Yorkers to learn more about the health benefits and environment of these cars and to take one for a test drive to see how fun they really are to use.”

Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner and Climate Action Council Co-Chair Basil Seggos said: “The transportation sector is one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions in the state and under Governor Hochul’s leadership, we are advancing efforts to support electric vehicle adoption and infrastructure. and the transition to zero-emission buses and trucks. Smart Communities Program for local governments to reduce emissions and the Municipal Zero-Emission Vehicle Program that helps buy or lease new zero-emission vehicles, DEC focuses on ensuring cleaner and more green for all New Yorkers to improve public health and fight climate change both now and for future generations.”

Thruway Authority Executive Director Matthew J. Driscoll said: “The Thruway Authority is creating an extensive network of electric vehicle charging stations, which is critical to increasing the use of zero-emission electric vehicles. Due to the Thruway’s investments in electric vehicle infrastructure , there are currently 40 EV charging stations in operation at Thruway lots, select service areas, and visitor centers, in addition to at least two high-level EV charging stations in each service area Thruway by the end of 2024. Our goal is to create a robust end-to-end connection of over 120 EV fast charging stations with an average of 30 miles between each location system.”

Transport Ministry Commissioner Marie Thérèse Dominguez said: “The mission of the State Department of Transportation is to provide New Yorkers with a safe, efficient, balanced, and environmentally friendly transportation system. Electric vehicles are a vital weapon in the battle to reduce greenhouse gases and we’re proud to support New York’s leading national program to fight climate change and usher in a greener economy.

Empire State Development Acting Commissioner and President and Chief Executive Designate Hope Knight said: “New York State is accelerating its national clean energy goals through programs that will incentivize the use of electric vehicles and expand fast-charging networks. Charge NY, EVolve NY and Drive Clean Rebate are supporting efforts ambitious government to create clean energy infrastructure and jobs that will accelerate our transition to a green economy.”
