Meetings will provide an overview of Phase 1 recommendations
October 6, 2021 (Arlington, TX) – The North Central Texas Council of Governments will host a series of in-person open houses across the region in October to highlight the focus of the study on transportation links high speed Dallas-Fort Worth. than the recommendations of phase 1 of the project.
The first open house is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 12 at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie. Open houses are also scheduled for 4 pm Tuesday, October 19 at Southside Preservation Hall in Fort Worth; 4 p.m. Tuesday, October 26 at Mercy Street in West Dallas; and 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 30 at Globe Life Field in Arlington. Large rooms were chosen to allow adequate social distancing.
There will be a short looping video about the project and presentation panels at each location that will explain the different high speed technologies and the recommended route. The open days aim to foster interaction between residents and the project team while providing an overview of the recommendations of phase 1.
High-speed and hyperloop rail technologies considered
The study assesses high-speed transportation alternatives to modernize and improve travel between Dallas, Arlington and Fort Worth. The alternatives analysis portion of this study is in its final stages before the federal environmental documentation process begins. The planners recommended a route along the Highway 30 corridor and two potential technologies for further study. High-speed rail and hyperloop technologies are under study.
The High Speed Transportation Study Team examined more than 40 possible routes in an area of 230 square miles during Phase 1 of the project. The most direct and least disruptive route from downtown Dallas to downtown Fort Worth, with a stop in Arlington, was along IH 30.
The high-speed technology selected would provide connections to local transportation systems and a link to future high-speed services, such as the Dallas-Houston high-speed rail line being developed by Texas Central. The Fort Worth Corridor in South Texas is also under consideration for a possible high speed option.
