The Port of Olympia, as of around midday Monday, is no longer associated with a former Washington State ferry known as the Evergreen State.
That’s because the ferry started from the port’s marine terminal and is now heading north through Budd Inlet, pushed by a tugboat, a port spokeswoman said.
Jennie Foglia-Jones said the port received a message from the ferry owner around 9 p.m. Sunday that the ferry was leaving.
After the coastguard cleared the departure, a few longshoremen untied the moorings and the ferry was pushed back from the dock by a tug, she said.
The destination of the ferry was not immediately known.
Foglia-Jones said the departure took place a day earlier than scheduled. Port officials believed the ferry could leave on Tuesday, she said.
