Thiruvananthapuram: Shashi Tharoor, a congressman, appears to side with the party on the Kerala semi-high speed train project. Tharoor reportedly told Kerala opposition leader VD Satheesan of Congress that he agreed with the party’s objection to the proposed railroad project. Tharoor had previously said he needed more time to research the proposal before opposing it.
Satheesan informed reporters that he conveyed to Tharoor the reasons for Congress’ opposition to the project. The idea had been carefully considered by the United Democratic Front, which is governed by Congress. Tharoor also received a copy of the report. Then he said he too agreed with the reasons for Congress’ opposition to the proposal.
Tharoor had already embarrassed Congress by refusing to sign a memorandum opposing the project given by members of Congress to the Federal Minister of Railways. He insisted that he needed to focus on the mission. Later, Tharoor supported the development ideas of the leaders of Vijayan and CPI (M).
Many senior leaders have criticized Tharoor’s stance, Kerala CCP Chairman K Sudhakaran, even suggesting that Tharoor should quit the party if he does not accept the party line.
